This picturesque harbor community, nestled on the eastern shores of Lake Ontario, offers endless recreational opportunities in a classic maritime village setting. Henderson Harbor is the perfect launch point for virtually every kind of freshwater adventure, from sport fishing, ice fishing, and charter fishing to motor boating, waterskiing, sailing, surfing, kayaking, scuba diving, and more.
Launching a boat is a breeze with three convenient sites: Westcott Beach State Park, the Henderson Town Boat Launch, and Stony Creek Boat Launch. Eight marinas in the area provide covered slips, boat repair, and fuel, making Henderson Harbor a safe and welcoming stop for traveling boaters, even during inclement weather.
But the fun doesn’t stop on the water. Henderson and Henderson Harbor also offer abundant land-based recreation, including miles of hiking trails, camping, RV parks, road and mountain biking, bird watching, snowshoeing, cross-country skiing, snowmobiling, and hunting.
The area is home to three stunning state parks—Westcott Beach, Robert Wehle, and Southwick Beach—as well as the 526-acre Black Pond Wildlife Management Area. This natural wetland complex features a barrier beach, sand dunes, open water, emergent marsh, and woodland shrub swamp. Lakeshore barrier beach and wetland habitats like this are rare in New York State, and the site has been designated a significant coastal fish and wildlife habitat by the New York Department of State.
Henderson and Henderson Harbor are part of the Great Lakes Seaway Trail, a 518-mile American Byway that follows Lake Ontario and extends to the St. Lawrence River. The area is easily accessible—just a 15-minute drive from Rt. 81, and only 30 miles from the Saint Lawrence River and Canada. We invite you to visit Henderson Harbor, stay awhile, and experience all that our beautiful region has to offer—on land, on the water, and in the heart of a classic New York maritime community.
