The Henderson Fire Department and its Ambulance Squad are always are looking for dedicated and energetic men and women who want to contribute to the health and safety and emergency preparedness of their community. Training is available at no cost to you!
To be active in the Fire Department, a member must make at least 20 percent of calls per calendar year (we did 50 calls in 2015), half of the regular monthly meetings (2nd Monday, 7 p.m. work detail, 8 p.m. meeting), a quarter of the monthly in-house trainings (3rd Monday at 6 p.m.) and at least one of the department’s major functions every year (Memorial Day, July flare sale, etc.). New members also must complete the Emergency Vehicle Operator Course within their first year; and also must complete either the Basic Exterior Firefighting Operations course or Firefighter 1 course within their first two years.
To be active in the Ambulance Squad, a member must make at least 10 percent of EMS calls (we did 170 calls in 2015) and half of the squad’s monthly meetings (2nd Monday at 6 p.m.). New members also must complete the Emergency Vehicle Operator Course within their first year, and achieve and maintain CPR certification. Squad members also must have the three-shot Hepatitis B vaccine series or sign a waiver. If you want to become an EMT, that training also is available at no cost to you! All members also must have an annual physical, at no cost to them.
Join one or both! Many members belong to both squads. Enjoy the service and the experience and the camaraderie, and also get a $200 annual credit off your state income tax!
